Be the Historian - Reconstruction Project

Step by Step Instructions

Step One
Log in. To access all that you need you must be a registered user to the site. Check with you teacher for instructions on how to register.

Step Two
Decide upon and have approved an "Area of Study". In this project the General topic is Reconstruction. You need to need to narrow the topic of Reconstruction into an "Area of Study". This can be done in several ways. You could choose to research only types of digital artifacts ( e.g. newspapers, photographs, narratives, letters) or you could choose to research artifacts related to specific events, people or subjects important to reconstruction ( e.g. Black Codes, Abraham Lincoln, Compromise of 1877). Lastly you could combine the two ( e.g. Letters of Abraham Lincoln, Narratives referring to the Black Codes, Newspaper reports of the Compromise of 1877).

Step Three
With your Area of Study identified search the web for appropriate pages. The Project Resources Menu has links to large an important collections that will be sufficient for most of your research. Some areas may require broader web searches and the identification of more specific collections. (Your search should be done in a new window or tab to make the next step easier to complete)

Step Four
Once you find an appropriate web page , it is time to record the site as a Bibliographic entry. Choose "Add a Bibliographic entry" in The Project Navigation Menu and fill out as much information as possible.

Further Steps
Find out from the teacher how many Bibliographic Entry are required. Go through the appropriate steps to add as many as are required.
